Sacred to Profane: 2013 Spring MFAH Writers Workshops

Writers at all levels welcome!

The Spring 2013 MFAH Writers Workshops, led by celebrated author and poet, Van G. Garrett, and an MFAH Educator, take a cross-cultural and cross-temporal look at works in the museums’ galleries of Asian, African, and indigenous American Art. Special emphasis will be given to The Glassell Collections of African, Indonesian & Pre-Columbian Gold.

Each workshop is designed around works of art that address a different aspect of the theme Sacred to Profane.

Discover how to use what you experience looking closely at works in the museum’s galleries as a springboard to writing.

All participants will engage with ice-breaker activities, an interactive gallery experience, free-time to write, and a mini-conference with Garrett.

Garrett earned an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston-Victoria, BA from Houston Baptist University, and a Certificate in African American Studies from the University of Houston.
